The Art of a Slow Saturday

The rain started before dawn and hasn’t let up — the kind of coastal Saturday that hums with gray light and the steady rhythm of wind against the windows. While the world outside feels wild and untamed, my little corner is calm and cozy. A candle flickers, the kettle hums, and my watercolor brushes wait patiently beside a fresh page.

Days like this are meant for slowing down — for simply letting the paint wander where it wants to go. I’ve been experimenting with a few new brushes today, trying out softer bristles and exploring how differently they hold and release water. There’s a quiet joy in watching color bloom and blend, each movement a small reminder of why I fell in love with watercolor in the first place.

I also finally had the chance to try out a beautiful set of watercolor pencils — a thoughtful gift from a super supportive friend who always seems to know when I need a creative nudge. There’s something special about adding that personal connection to the tools I use — like a little reminder that art, much like friendship, is meant to be shared and to grow together.

Since launching The Sandbar Diaries, life has felt both exciting and beautifully surreal. I’ve received my first two commission requests — custom pieces that I’m now sketching and planning. The idea that someone would trust me to create something special for their home fills me with such gratitude.

So for now, while the rain keeps falling, I’ll stay here — where the water meets paper, pencils meet paint, and inspiration drifts in like the tide. 💙
